About Dancol Rough Collies

‘Dancol’ was registered by the Kennel Club as an affix on 30 September 1993.Prior to this, we have owned a number of Rough Collie’s, all as pets and companions.

(Shep)

(Ben and Shandy)

(Blue)

(Bonnie)

Blue and Bonnie were shown occasionally with Blue getting a few results, his best being the Best Blue Dog at the Lancashire & Cheshire Open Show.

Early in 1991 we lost Blue so we set about looking for a new collie and were pointed in the direction of Jean and Alan Staniland of Tashadon Rough Collies who had a litter of tricolours.  Our son David came with us to pick a new puppy dog and we all fell in love with a chunky tri dog with a full collar, we named him Tashadon Midnight Flyer at Dancol (Jiffy). (after Jonathan Davies)

(Jiffy)

His sire was Lynaire Midnight Blue, dam Ch Tashadon Black Cherry who had won the BOB at Crufts that year. Although bought as a pet we were persuaded to show Jiffy in the Lancashire & Cheshire Autumn Open Show.  He went on to win 2 classes and second in a third.  Our adventure into the show ring had just begun.  During his lifetime he went onto win many BOB’s at Open Shows and was consistently well placed in Champ Shows travelling the length and breadth of the country gaining his Stud Book number at Blackpool in 1996.  His crowning glory was gaining 3rd place at Crufts in 1998.  We lost him on the 20.01.04

In December 1992 and August 1993 we got our next 2 collies who came from Roz and Barrie Makepeace of Lynaire Rough Collies.  (Christie) a sable and white dog Lynaire Going for Gold at Dancol  by sire Ch Starbrook Touch of Gold at Lynaire, dam Lynaire all of a Glitter.

The second dog came to us in August 1993, a blue merle, sire Lynaire Midnight Blue, dam Remlaw Midnight Diamond at Lynaire   (Lucky) Lynaire Strike it Lucky at Dancol.

(Lucky)

Both Christie and Lucky were never very happy in the show ring but had loveable personalities and remained with for the rest of their lives.  We lost Lucky in March 2005 at 11 years old, Christie was 13 ½ and we had him until June 2007.

In 1997 we were looking for another puppy with show potential and at the Collie Association show in November 1997.  Carole Smedley of Antoc Collies said that she had a likely prospect for us.  The blue merle pup we named Antoc Quicksilver with Dancol (Quincy). Sire Ch Mayd Welcome at Attendus, dam Ch Antoc Crystal Rainbow (also BOB at Crufts).  Quincy has been consistently well placed at champ shows gaining his Stud Book number in Belfast 2001  Now in the twilight of his career he has won Best veteran in breed at CA, Darlington  & Yorkshire Collie Champ shows in the past 3 years.  Sadly, Quincy passed over the rainbow bridge in October 2012, just short of his 15th birthday.
